Adobe is working on a generative AI video model for its Firefly family that will bring new tools to its Premiere Pro video editing platform. These new Firefly tools — along with some planned third-party integrations with Runway, Pika Labs, and OpenAI’s Sora models — will let Premiere Pro users generate video, add or remove objects using text prompts, and extend the length of video clips.

Unlike many of Adobe’s previous Firefly-related announcements, no release date has been set for the new video generation tools. Adobe says the tools will roll out “this year.” While the creative software giant showcased what its own video model can do in an early demo, its plans to integrate Premiere Pro with AI models from other providers aren't certain.

Adobe calls the third-party AI integrations an “early exploration” of what they may look like “in the future.” The goal is to give Premiere Pro users more choices. Users might use Pika to extend shots or Sora or Runway AI for generating B-roll. Adobe also plans to apply Content Credentials labels to these generated clips. These labels will identify which AI models were used.

The new Firefly tools could make video editing faster and more creative. Users can quickly generate scenes and elements that would normally take a lot of time and skill. This innovation could be a big help for both amateurs and professionals looking to speed up their workflow.

Allowing third-party AI integrations also broadens the toolset available to users. This means editors can choose the right AI tool for their needs, making their projects more unique and tailored.

Adobe's focus on AI shows their commitment to pushing creative boundaries. By continuing to develop and integrate new technologies, they aim to provide users with innovative tools. This helps keep Adobe’s software at the forefront of the industry.

While it’s still early days, the potential applications of these new tools are exciting. Editors could soon have the ability to create more complex and visually stunning videos with less effort. This could revolutionize how we think about video production and open new possibilities for creativity.
