Adobe is working on a generative AI video model for its Firefly family. This will bring new tools to its Premiere Pro video editing platform. These new Firefly tools will allow users to generate video and add or remove objects using text prompts. This is similar to Photoshop’s Generative Fill feature. Users will also be able to extend the length of video clips.
Unlike many of Adobe’s previous Firefly-related announcements, no release date has been established for the new video generation tools. Adobe says they’ll roll out “this year.” The creative software giant showcased what its video model is currently capable of in an early video demo. It also mentioned plans to integrate Premiere Pro with AI models from other providers. But these plans are not certain yet.
Adobe calls these third-party AI integrations an “early exploration.” The aim is to provide Premiere Pro users with more choice. Users might use models like Pika to extend shots. They could also use Sora or Runway AI when generating B-roll for their projects. Adobe also says its Content Credentials labels can be applied to these generated clips. These labels identify which AI models have been used to generate the clips.
This step by Adobe shows the company's commitment to innovation in video editing. By incorporating generative AI, Adobe aims to simplify the video creation process. This can be especially helpful for users who need to produce content quickly and efficiently.
Adobe hopes that by offering more tools and options, it can better meet the needs of various users. From hobbyists to professional editors, the new AI features promise to make video editing more accessible and flexible.
As the year progresses, it will be interesting to see how these new tools develop. If successful, they could change the way video content is created and edited.
